Growing Pains is a support group for chronically ill youth. The members communicate through email and snail mail. Through communication, kids will develop a greater self-awareness, a sense of connection with their peers whose experiences are similar, and the ability to express how they are feeling. As a teenager, it is essential to love yourself and be proud of who you are.
Adults are not the only ones afflicted with chronic pain. There are many young people struggling to balance the obstacles of growing up with the ache of chronic illness. It is time for teenagers in pain to realize how many of their peers understand. Communication and education are the key to accepting the obstacles life presents, and the beginning of a happy life.
Growing Pains is here to help you connect with your peers who understand the affect pain has on your life.
Smart Moves, Smart Choices:
A Prescription Drug Abuse Education Program
Did you know that nearly one-quarter of 12th graders report that they have abused prescription drugs by the time they graduate from high school? In fact, research shows that prescription drug abuse among our nation’s youth is surging. In response to this growing problem, the National Association of School Nurses teamed up with PriCara®, Division of Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., on a program called “Smart Moves, Smart Choices.” The program aims to educate middle and high school students about the serious risks of abusing prescription medicines.
Videos and Curricula
“Smart Moves, Smart Choices” features a free, four-part video series. The program takes a news-based approach to educating American youth about the serious risks of prescription drug abuse. The program includes video for parents, who play an important role in reinforcing their children’s education about prescription medications.
