You can progress from the role of a patient to that of a person.

True, your pain has made a significant difference in your life. There are many activities that you used to do that you can no longer perform. However it is in the way that you define yourself that will enable you to develop a positive attitude. Seeing yourself as a patient puts real limits of what is expected of you. Defining yourself as a person with certain limitations enables you to maintain a sense of well-being, of ability. We all have limitations. It is how we define who we are that verify our abilities. A person makes choices based on their present ability. A patient does not look at themselves in terms of ability, but rather disability.
